The fishing schedule at Le Fario is typically 12 hours split between a morning and an
afternoon session. After breakfast, and around 08.00; your guide will where you will
be fishing for the day. Depending on your desires, time of year and weather
conditions; the drive may be up to one hour. Fishing is predominantly for brown trout
and rainbows. However, there is also the possibility for fishing for brookies and
landlocked salmon.

After the morning session; lunch will be taken waterside.. Enjoy a light break and then
continue to fish until the early evening to ensure you are back at the lodge for 20.00,
in preparation for the evening meal.

The guides are all qualified instructors, authorised by Chubut province and National
Parks and speak English. They will use all their extensive knowledge of the waters to
do everything they can to provide the best chances of a memorable trip. One guide
will accompany every two anglers. Each guide is equipped with professional fishing
tackle, rafts, oars, and everything necessary for the fishing journey.

Fishing areas such as Rivadavia, Arrayanes, Futaleufu, Lago Verde, Laguna Larga
Kruger Lake and Frey. It is also possible to cover the Trevelin, Esquel and Rio Pico
areas as well. Lake XXX right outside the lodge is famous for large browns which can
easily measure between 20-24 inches – giving you the perfect chance to do some
fishing in the magic hour. The chosen fishing itineraries depend on the angler’s
preferences and interests. We suggest 7 fishing days for the Esquel and National Park
area. Regardless of the chosen fishing destination, we will organize a specific itinerary
for each angler, taking into consideration their preferences and the fishing results in
each location based on the trip date.

It is recommended to use 5wt rods with floating lines and an 7wt rod with sink tip
(250-300 grain) for streamers or those windy days. The guides will help choose your
flies and tactics for the area you are fishing. Loaner rods and wading equipment are
all available at the lodge, should you wish to travel light. Prior to your trip, we will send
you a list of recommended flies for the time of year you will be fishing.

When is the best time to visit?

The  season starts in November and ends in the end of April. Depending on the type of fishing you prefer will determine when best to visit. November, the beginning of our season and March & April are the best months for them. In Spring time we have high levels of waters, after the typical snowy winter we experience here in Patagonia. Fish are active and hungry in higher & oxygen water after winter time. Usually cold morning and sunny during the day it is a great time of the season in our area.

In autumn – March & April – big brown trout are active and getting ready for spawning.  The landscape turns into something bright and colourful. All the area in Los Alerces National Park becomes a fantastic time for streamers. The temperature generally drops with cooler morning and nights, and it is a great time to catch brown trout.

If wanting to fish dry flies then December, January & February are our warmest months (summer) and it is the best choice for dry flies. December is the best time for big attractors, as the dragon fly hatch occurs and can be seen all over our waters. Right on the banks of the lake is a stunning time for hatches that occur mostly every day and gives our guests the opportunity to enjoy it while dinner is being prepared. Nymphs? hopper droppers? Since mid December until the end of the season this is a very good technique with great results.
