Information

The lodge was opened at the end of 2008 and has ever since been one of the most defined fishing lodges if you are looking for remoteness, wilderness and wild, monster rainbow trout. The lodge sits on the top of the plains of Lago Strobel, or Jurrasic Lake as it more commonly known and has the most access (10km) to the world famous Barrancoso river where the rainbow trout spawn. With several other creeks and lagunas at its disposal, such as the Laguna Verde on your doorstep, you will not grow tired of new places to fish.

ACCOMODATION

Estancia Laguna Verde has a maximum capacity for 10 rods per week, all accommodated in, en-suite single or double rooms with maid and laundry service in the. The lodge takes its name from the lagune that it sits proudly above with views of the vista to die for. The sun rise and sunsets are truly spectacular.

A hot lunch will be be cooked and served by the guides waterside, normally together with the other anglers.

The large living room takes centre stage, with views of the lagune and is a great place to rest and relax over a snack or drink served before dinner at the common dining table.. Guests also have full use of the lodge’s fly tying table. There is of course a wading room where you can dry your waders and boots after a day’s fishing.

In the evening, you will be served regionally representative meals including Argentinian beef, Patagonian lamb with vegetables and herbs grown in the gardens. Fine Argentinian wines from the lodges own cellar are served at both lunch and dinner, carefully chosen to match the meals. Typically on the final day of the week, an asado is also served along with some of the best empanadas we’ve ever tasted.

Non-Angling Activities and Options

This is a fishing-focused destination with but does have some non-angling options. explore the wonderful landscapes and wildlife on the enormous ranch. The Estancia can also arrange short day tours. There are also the prehistoric markings that are well worth viewing on the estancia.

Internet / Communications

Wi-Fi is available for guests. Cell phone service is not available.
The Lodge also offers Satellite and IP telephone.
Electricity runs 24 hours a day via windmill generators backed up by fuel generators. Laundry service is provided twice a week.

FISHING

At Estancia Laguna Verde you will be out fishing all day, with lunch taken by the Lago Strobel together will the other anglers from the lodge. After lunch, you will typically continue to fish until around 17.00 and then return back to the lodge.

Depending on when you are fishing in the season, the majority of the fishing is done on Lago Strobel (Jurassic Lake). The lodge has private access to over 20 kilometres of coastline of the lake – more than any other lodge. The coastline itself is varied, allowing for crystal clear bays where you will be able to sight fish whilst wading in one bay, to making you think you are on a Mediterranean beach in another where the fish can be seen cruising on the surface. Having so much coastline is also beneficial when the wind blows as it means there is a possibility of shelter. With abundant food for the trout to live on, the fish grow fast and the average weight is between 7 and 9 pounds with fish between 10 and 20 pounds caught regularly. There is every chance you will land the largest rainbow trout of your life.

Along with the coastline, the lodge has more access to the Barrancosso river than any other lodge. This narrow river gives the angler the chance to fish for monster rainbows in small pockets of pools on a smaller rod. The stories of anglers running down the valley are unheralded!

The options and type of fishing you can do are endless and you will be able to dictate the pace and schedule each day. Perhaps you want to fish the Barrancoso in the morning and then one of the smaller lagoons in the afternoon? No problem! Or perhaps you’d like to go spend a day on the other side of Lago Strobel? It can be done! The options are endless and indeed a week can suddenly feel too short.

All fishing in the area is done while wading and fishing from the banks of the lakes or the river. There is one guide per two anglers, and through the day they will drive you in the a 4×4 moving from spot to spot to ensure you have the best chance of catching fish. The guide will be equipped with a landing net to assist with landing of that dream trout.

The lodge has a very well supplied “Loaner tackle room” with plenty of rods, reels, waders, boots, and there is a very nice fly shop at the main lodge. It is, however, highly recommended that anglers bring all of their own equipment including rods, reels, waders, boots, all flies and tackle. The majority of the fishing is done using a fast-actioned single handed rod, but is becoming common to see people also using light spey rods in some of the bays. All fishing is done on a floating flyline and an intermediate line can be useful when fishing though the waves. Whilst the weather will determine a lot of the tactics, the lodge and fantastic guides will always make sure they do their utmost that you will have a most memorable stay.

Guests fly into Buenos Aires International Airport and we highly recommend at least one overnight stay in the city, giving yourself time to relax after a long flight and acclimatise to the fabulous country.
