Located in the Chubut region of Argentina, an area of synonymous with legendary trout fishing on rivers such as the Rivadavia River, Arrayanes River, Rio Futaleufu (Rio Grande), Lago Verde, Corcovado River; you truly are in trout heaven. 
 
Serving only 4 anglers; we truly believe that PACo will deliver a chance to go back in time when land was untouched and a fish may not have seen a fly for weeks. Here you will have the opportunity to float, wade, fish in big rivers and small creeks; access to private waters – all with the possibility of landing a trophy fish. With more than 25 years experience of fishing the area; PACo will give you the chance to see areas that most people could only dream of.  

ACCOMODATION

Perfect situated close to Trevelin and only a few minutes drive from Los Alceres National Parl: you’re stay at Estancia La Paz you will have you in private log cabins only steps away from the Rio Futaleufu with amazing views of the Andes. Hosting only 4 rods per week; each cabin has two bedrooms with queen beds available for two rods and are well furnished with an open bar at each cabin with wines, beer and spirits.

The dining area and spa are only a short walk from the cabins. With a swimming pool, solarium and hot tubs on the premises; you really have every chance to relax. Should a group of four take the week; then we can accommodate them all in a larger cabin. 

Before a day’s fishing; you will be offered breakfast served typically from 07.00 where you will be offered different options every day including toast, baked goods, fresh juices and seasonal fruits. Arriving back at the lodge around 19.30 in good time before a gourmet evening dinner. Lunch is served waterside and will include salads, meat and desserts and snacks and wine. Being vegetarian friendly, our chef will make sure to meet your dietary needs. It goes without saying, that carefully selected fine Argentinian wines will accompany your meals.

Non-Angling Activities and Options

This is predominantly a fishing trip; however there is horseback riding and hiking available for the non-fishing guest as well as visiting the towns nearby.

FISHING

The fishing schedule at PaCo is typically 9 hours split between a morning and an afternoon session. After breakfast, your guide will take you in the 4×4 to where you will be fishing for the day. Depending on your desires, time of year and weather conditions; the drive may be up to one hour. Fishing is predominantly for brown trout and rainbows. However, there is also the possibility for fishing for brookies and landlocked salmon. 

After the morning session; lunch will be taken waterside.. Enjoy a light break and then continue to fish until the early evening then drive back to the lodge in preparation for the evening meal..  

The guides are all qualified instructors and speak English and will do everything they can to provide the best chances of landing that dream fish and with their expertise and knowledge of the river systems,   

It is recommended to use 6wt rods with floating lines and an 8wt rod with sink tip (250-300 grain) for streamers and the guides will help choose your flies and tactics for the area you are fishing. Prior to your trip, we will send you a list of recommended flies for the time of year you will be fishing. PACo use 13 foot rafts which are comfortable and large enough for 2 anglers, Fishing areas such as Rivadavia River, Arrayanes River, Rio Futaleufu (Rio Grande), Lago Verde, Corcovado River, Tecka River, and Kruger Lake. These are just the areas we can mention as we also have secret rivers that are possible too.

TRAVEL

 

Guests fly into Buenos Aires International Airport and we highly recommend at least one overnight stay in the city, giving yourself time to relax after a long flight and acclimatise to the fabulous country. Commercial airlines typically fly out from the domestic airport in Buenos Aires to the airport of Esquel in about 2 and a half hours and is served daily. PACo is only a 30 minute drive from the airport. Alternatively, one can fly in to the city of Bariloche. From there it is a 3-hour journey. Transfers to/from Esquel airport are included for in the standard rates. 
 
When is the best time to visit?
The  season starts the last week of November and ends in the end of April. Depending on the type of fishing you prefer will determine when best to visit. To summarise November and December offers higher waters with streamers and nymphing being the norm. In January and through to mid-March summer is in full swing and dry fly and hopper fishing will be at its prime with temperatures in the upper 20s C. As Autumn arrives in late March and through April; the fishing ramps up with fish preparing for the spawning season and cooler nights and milder temperatures through the day.  

Typical Length of Stay

The typical length of stay at the PACo is seven (7) nights with six (6) days of fishing, but shorter stays are possible.

Typical Itinerary

Thursday: Depart home 
Friday: Arrive Buenos Aires and overnight 
Saturday: Fly from Buenos Aires to Esquel and transfer to the lodge 
Sunday – Friday: Six full days of guided fishing  
Saturday: Depart the lodge. Fly from Esquel to Buenos Aires 
Sunday: Depart for home 

Documents Required

Valid passport. Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and other Western European nations do not need a visa for tourist trips of up to ninety days.
